Dog Collars
With so many styles and materials available, choosing just the right collar for your dog can seem daunting. Keep it simple. The weight and width of your dog's collar should be proportional to his size. For length, measure your dog's neck a few inches down from his head, then add an inch (for very small dogs) or 2 inches for medium and large dogs. For short-coated dogs, a broad, flat leather or woven nylon collar with a sturdy metal buckle works well. If your dog has a lush ruff and long hair, a "rolled" style collar may work better. Insure that the buckle and other parts of the collar won't tug on or catch your dog's hair.
"Snap-together" dog collars are convenient, attractive and neater looking than buckled collars, and work well for many dogs. But if your dog is very large or strong, or has a tendency to lunge when excited, a sturdy buckled collar is a safer choice.

Rhinestone collars are not for everyday use and should be kept for special occasions. Always check that small parts are secure and do not rub the skin of your dog. Jewels may come loose and damage teeth or skin.

Muttwear & More is a family owned business started in April of 2004 by an idea and inspired by our daughter Courtni. Courtni creates many of the hand strung dog and cat necklaces, assists with product selection and many other duties. My husband and I along with our daughter share our home with a Doberman named Maddie; Labrador named Daisy, three cats: JJ, Lanie, Peachie Boy and fish.
I have had the opportunity to have pets all my life. I worked as a Veterinary Technician for five years and as an Executive Director of our local humane society for ten years. Pets have always been and will always be a very important part of my life. I am fortunate to have found a way to utilize my knowledge and love for animals while owning a business that is truly a family affair.
